Our Mission

We believe that women and girls can and do excel in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We are building a community to tell the stories of women in STEM, showcase Women’s STEM organizations, and provide a platform where ladies can help ladies succeed in STEM careers. We believe that, together, we can learn from and help each other to make us all live up to our full potentials.

The Founder

Sarah Worsham (@sazbean) is Technical Director of Strategic Projects at Mavice, LLC. Computer Engineer, MBA, her/she.

Sarah is Technical Director of Strategic Projects at Mavice, LLC, where she is responsible for technical delivery of key strategic projects with clients for simple, powerful, custom software that solves complex, overwhelmingly massive data, asset and content management problems. She provides thought leadership and architecture direction of technical strategy. Sarah has a B.S.E. in Computer Engineering with a concentration in Software Engineering from the University of Michigan, and an MBA in Strategy and Marketing from The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

Sarah was excited about science and engineering at a young age and she has worked to share that excitement, especially with disadvantaged persons, since she was in college. Joining SWE (Society of Women Engineers) in college, and volunteering for various outreach activities for elementary students and high schoolers, Sarah extended her outreach activities during her professional career as a Communications Co-Lead on the SWE national Outreach Committee. She has produced a podcast, Lady Paragons, that spotlighted the stories of women in STEM. She has been Scholarship Chair for SWE-Detroit and has served on the SWENext Programs Committee for SWE national. She has reviewed scholarships for SWE National, as well as National Engineers Week FutureCity Competition and has judged for US Nationals of the Invention Convention and the Metro Detroit Science & Engineering Fair. Sarah is currently VP of Professional Development for SWE-Detroit.

 

Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge with, respect, that we reside on the ancestral homelands of the Peoria (Pea-Or-E-ah), Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ (Anish-in-a-be-waki), Potawatomi (Pot-tah-WAH-tah-mee), Myaamia (Mee-ah-mee-ah), Fox, and Mississauga (Mi-suh-saa-guh). We honor with gratitude the land itself and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations. We honor their elders, past and present, as well as future generations. We recognize Indigenous organizations such as American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) who are doing this work. This calls us to commit to continuing to learn how to be better stewards of the land we inhabit as well.

What is a Land Acknowledgment?

A land acknowledgment recognizes and respects Indigenous Peoples as traditional stewards of the land, and the relationship between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories. Lady Paragons is committed to a practice of land acknowledgments as a small step towards reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples. Lady Paragons hopes the use of land acknowledgment statements encourages individuals to think about what it means to occupy space on Indigenous lands.

Lady Paragons prides itself on demonstrating the value of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and realize we are still learning. We recognize that a land acknowledgment by itself is a small gesture. As an organization, we are committed to supporting Indigenous people and continually examining our relationship between land and people.
